To Cambodia With Love editor Andy Brouwer just posted this essay that I wrote for the book about Kratie. Located right on the Mekong River, Kratie is a sweet little town — my favorite place so far in Cambodia. The pace is slow, and the surrounding area is perfect for long, leisurely bike rides. Three days there was not enough. Hopefully I’ll get back soon.

Celeste Heiter — friend, colleague and editor of To Japan With Love — has made a terrific instructional video for my clay pot fish recipe from Communion: A Culinary Journey Through Vietnam. The video is featured on her blog, Chopstick Cinema. The directions are clear and easy to follow, and she makes the recipe accessible for American kitchens. Even if you don’t have a clay pot, you can make this dish using a heavy-bottom saucepan. Celeste also includes a link to the recipe in her blog post.

I just read this article by To Asia With Love contributor (Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand) Adam Bray. Saigon is no longer the off-kilter city it was when I moved there in 1995 … with nightlife highlights being the Apocalypse Now and Q Bar. Long gone are the days of the fun and funky hotspots. Seems like Saigon is now fully entrenched in the world of hip and sleek. Anyone out there remember the Red Rhino and Buffalo Blues?? Sigh, those were the days …
